My Role: Makeup Artist

Purpose and Message:
  • My Makeup looks are to explore personal identity, beauty standards, and environmental impacts through nature looks! I have always been interested in how makeup exists between self-expression and consumption, both functioning as a creative tool and disposable project! In this project, I wanted to focus on using the least amount of product by using the “Project Pan” and to create visual transformations on the face, making my face the canvas. By using limited materials, I made myself more aware of the products I chose while still producing visually engaging results. This project lets me focus on the process, repetition, and discipline through daily routine.
Challenges and Solutions:
  • Consistency:
    • It was difficult for me to keep track of everyday and to stay on track. Sometimes I would do my makeup right before 12am! I decided to have muliple alarms throughout the aftrnoon to remind myself to do and post my makeup looks in time!
    • This project has impacted my practice by forcing me to commit to consistency and material awareness. To work daily for 49days has required me to practice discipline and shift my focus on producing good outcomes while also engaging in process-based work! The limitations have pushed me to be more intentional and critical about what I use and how I use it!
